Winter Furnace Recalls
This Winter don't let faulty furnaces heat you
up.
Protect your home
Keep fire where it belongs - safe and under your control!
If you have a gas-fired horizontal forced-air furnace in your house check
it immediately - you may be at risk - especially if it has been manufactured
by Consolidated Industries/Premier Furnace Company. That's the current warning
from the U.
S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
In
response to CPSC's alert, gas companies may even be red tagging furnaces
unnecessarily. Know the products you have in your home to make sure your
family stay safe.
How to tell if you have a problem?
The safety alert concerns two factors in your furnace. The first are those furnaces with steel "NOx" rods above the burners to control the emission of nitrogen oxide compounds. The suffix "X" is important and should alert you to the fact that your furnace is the type the CPSC is warning the public about. The second is if your "NOx" rod furnace has a BTU rating of 60,000 BTU's or greater. Evidence does not support concern for units with a lesser rating even with "Nox" rods present.
Critical Fire Safety Improvements You Need to Make NOW
First: Make sure your furnace is installed properly and fires correctly.
Second: It should be serviced annually. Is yours? Your yearly service should include a safety inspection of the burner assembly, heater exchange and any replacement parts or parts showing signs of deterioration.
Third:
Protect the wood mounting near your furnace by placing a non-combustible
material that extends a minimum of 12 inches past the side of the furnace.
Fourth: Insure the air space between the wood surface mounting and the floor of the furnace. A professional and licensed contractor can do this work properly for you should you not be able to do it yourself.
Fifth: If your house doesn't already have an ionization type smoke detector, install one to provide an early warning system for smoke and fire to alert you and your family.
The following manufacturers have identified the furnaces listed below as being manufactured by Consolidated Industries and subject to the Commission's safety alert.
